Unmasking Microaggressions in a Clinical Setting
In our daily interactions, snap judgments based on gender, race/ethnicity, age, and other characteristics may often lead to microaggressions. These subtle, covert forms of discrimination occur frequently without immediate recognition. For psychologists and mental health professionals, these microaggressions can significantly impact interactions with clients and colleagues, contributing to detrimental treatment outcomes. This program is designed to equip participants with practical strategies to identify and mitigate the impact of microaggressions in clinical settings. The program also addresses coping strategies for those experiencing microaggressions, fostering dialogue and a focus on inclusivity and cultural awareness within mental health clinical work. This program is structured into three interactive parts. Part 1, "Listen and Learn," emphasizes the importance of understanding the terminology and history of microaggressions. In Part 2, "Action and Response," participants explore strategies to effectively challenge biases and employ evidence-based response tactics to mitigate the negative impacts of microaggressions. Part 3, "Enhance Workplace Culture," focuses on bolstering organizational practices to create a positive, inclusive culture that aligns with professional values supporting individuals of diverse backgrounds.
