Seminar Description
Morning Session
This webinar fulfills the requirements for mental health professionals to obtain 2-3 hours of PA Dept. of Human Services (DHS) and professional board-approved Continuing Education on current Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting. Professionals will learn the role and responsibilities of Mandated Reporters to include time frames.
Objectives- Participants will be able to:
· Describe differences between Child Protective Services and General Protective Services
· Describe relevant definitions including: child, perpetrator, acts or failures to act, categories of child abuse, and exclusions to child abuse
· Describe provisions and responsibilities for reporting suspected child abuse
· Describe indicators for the recognition of child abuse
Lunch Session
Treating suicidal clients is both challenging and stressful. However, research- informed interventions can enable mental health practitioners to successfully provide treatment. The importance of self-care and emotional competence will be discussed.
Objectives - Participants will be able to:
· Describe two effective interventions for suicidal clients.
· Describe the clinical, ethical, and legal issues involved with the treatment of clients who threaten to harm themselves.
Describe he importance of training and consultation with colleagues around these issues
Afternoon Session
This webinar provides practicing mental health professionals with guidance in order to negotiate both clinical and risk management issues. Topics include how to store, maintain and dispose of paper and electronic records, patient access to records, and how to document high risk situations. HIPAA and
tate laws and regulations relevant to documentation and record keeping will also be discussed.
Objectives - Participants will be able to:
· Describe critical elements of effective documentation
· List information often missing in clinical records.
· Describe ethical issues related to retention and disposal of clinical records
· Identify major licensing board concerns regarding clinical records.
